According to reports, the CID team visited Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata in connection with the alleged forged signature case.
The case was filed after complaints were received from several Trinamool MLAs alleging that signatures of multiple legislators were forged on official documents submitted to the West Bengal Assembly.
TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was expected to apepar before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Bhabani Bhavan in South Kolkata on Tuesday to face interrogation in the signature mismatch case.
He was earlier served summons for the third time. According to IANS, if he stays away this time also, the CID might be prompted to act against him.
Meanwhile, legal circles have point out that there is also a legal shield in this matter in Abhishek Banerjee’s favour – the scheduled hearing on Wednesday before a single-judge vacation bench of the Calcutta High Court on his petition challenging the CID summons and seeking interim protection against coercive police action, including arrest, the report added.
